That day I was still sick. I had a few hours out of bed, so I took the opportunity to visit the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. The pagoda is located nearby an area of computer malls, so I stopped on the way to buy a 8GB micro-SDHC memory card.

There are at least four different malls dedicated entirely to modern technology. Mobile phones (on the first floor), laptops (second floor), desktop computers (third floors). The floor order in most malls is the same. The fourth floor is dedicated to computer accessories such as cables and adapters.

I finally found the desired memory card in one of the stores. In September 2008 it was not easy to find such cards in Xi’an. The price seemed reasonable – 220 yuans. The saleswoman showed me two different SanDisk memory cards. The first one was inside a small package which looked like a counterfeit. The second one she brought from another store. Packaging looked genuine, but there a was tiny cut on the bottom which showed it was opened before. An open package may indicate that someone, at some stage, has replaced the original card with a fake one, or that the card was tested to see if it works properly.
