Journey to the World

It hasn’t been two weeks since I got back from my journey to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, and I already started planning my next year journey. I got addicted to traveling, but learned well that in order to travel seriously you need to come prepared, which includes not so few expenses.

My first journey was carefully planned while considering unplanned time. This means that a good plan must include wide parts which are unplanned so it can be a good plan. My program included general targets along with specific attractions that I wanted to go to. I have given every place its own time, and retrospectively looking, it was a good plan. The structure of your course also affect the general planning. A bad planned course might cause problems when something doesn’t go as planned, or it can give you the feeling that you missed something important.

My tour to China is getting closer, so I started checking about guidebooks to China. The latest edition of Lonely Planet to China was published in May 2007 (Lonely Planet to China 2007 Edition). I read some reviews about it, which led me to believe it’s not such an amazing book. It’s heavy, containing over one thousand pages (after all, China is big as the Entire Europe). The most disturbing rumor was that China banned this book. Some of the rumors I read were referring to the way Tibet or Taiwan are described as parts which do not belong to China. To make things short, it’s a lot of boring politics.

A well planned tour in China requires knowing the country. First you have to take a map and observe the country in general. Look at the big cities and the surrounding countries. China is divided into 22 provinces (not including Taiwan) and some more regions as you can see in the map. Knowing those provinces will help you understand the geographical structure of China and plan a tour more efficiently. There are two maps of China here: Hebrew and English.

It’s getting more complicated to get a Visa to China as the Beijing Olympic Games are getting closer. New regulations published in April 13, 2008 make it harder to get a visa generally. It seems that getting it from Hong Kong becomes almost impossible.

רעידת אדמה בעוצמה 8.0 בסולם ריכטר זיעזעה את סין לפני כשבועיים (12.5.2008). זו הרעידה החזקה ביותר בשלושים השנים האחרונות שפקדה את המדינה. ממשלת סין הכריזה על שלושה ימי אבל (שכבר הסתיימו). מספר ההרוגים הגיע ללמעלה מ-69,000. ראש ממשלת סין צופה כי הוא אף יעבור את ה-80,000. מספר התושבים בסין שהפכו למחוסרי בית מגיע עד לכדי חמישה מיליון, מספר עצום בגודלו. ההערכה היא כי במהלך שלושת השנים הקרובות יבנו הסינים את רוב הערים שנהרסו במחוז סיצ’ואן מחדש. מדווח גם על 15 אתרים פולטי קרינה רדיו-אקטיבית באזור רעידת האדמה.

מחוז סיצ’ואן – הנפגע העיקרי ברעידת האדמה

מחוז סיצ’ואן בדרום מערב סין הוא אחד המחוזות הגדולים במדינה. הוא נחשב לאזור מוכה אסון, ויש להתייחס אליו ככזה בכל הנוגע לתכנון טיול בו. עם כל הצער שבדבר, זה אחד ממוקדי המשיכה העיקריים למטיילים מרחבי העולם. מבנים שנשארו עומדים על תילם עלולים להיות בסכנת התמוטטות, כבישים וגשרים המקשרים בין ערים שונות במחוז נהרסו לגמרי, וכך גם באזורים שונים אין תנועת רכבות או כל אמצעי תחבורה אחר ולכן יש לתכנן בקפידה כל נסיעה לאזור זה במהלך החודשים הקרובים. קיימים דיווחים שנאסר על תיירים לעלות על אוטובוסים אשר נוסעים למחוז סיצ’ואן, אך אין הדבר נאכף מכל מקום. על כל פנים, לפחות בחודש יוני לא מומלץ להתקרב לשם עד שיגיעו עדכונים מהימנים יותר.

במהלך שיטוטי באינטרנט נתקלתי במאמר מעניין על נסיעה ברכבות בסין. כמה עובדות “מזעזעות” על השרותים המסריחים, על רמת הפשע הגבוהה ועל הקושי הרב בלהתמצא בתחנה מכיוון שהכרטיס מודפס בסינית, כמו גם פרטים שימושיים שכדאי לדעת לפני שעולים על רכבות ברחבי סין. עוד לא יצא לי לבדוק עד כמה המאמר עדכני או נכון, אבל תקראו ותשפטו בעצמכם. מומלץ לכל מי שמתכנן טיול בסין בקרוב.

קו הרכבת הראשון בסין, שנקרא קו Songhu, נבנה בשנת 1874 בשנגחאי, וסימל את תחילתה של התחבורה המודרנית בסין. לקראת סוף שנת 2003 אורכם הכולל של פסי הרכבת בסין הגיע ל-73,000 קילומטרים ומיקם את סין במקום הראשון באסיה (השלישי בעולם).

בסוף שנות ה-90 הוכנסו שיפורים משמעותיים ברכבות הן מבחינת נקיון והן מבחינת נוחות, אך זה עדיין לא מספיק.

ישנן ארבע מחלקות שונות ברכבות: מושב קשה (Hard Seat), מושב רך (Soft Seat), דרגש קשה (Hard Sleeper) ודרגש רך (Soft Sleeper).

One hour before the flight I had a work emergency so I almost missed the train to the airport. Ten minutes after sitting in the airplane to Qatar one of the stewardesses announced that there’s a problem with the airplane’s door. This caused the first delay in a combined deal of Arkia Airlines and Qatar Airlines. This is considered a cheap flight from Israel to Beijing with two connections. One in Amman, Jordan and the second is in Doha, Qatar. The downfall of this deal is a long wait of six hours in Doha.

So we came back to the airport, waited for an hour, got on the bus and the airplane for the second time, only to hear of a airport strike started the minute we boarded the airplane. So here we go for the second time from the airplane back to the airport.
